A bunch of our members got together and enjoyed a fun afternoon of drinks and games at the Club's annual summer party. Thanks to Jay for hosting!
Gibraltar Netball Festival - 8-10 June 2012
A few of our members went across to Gibraltar and joined forces with four Stockholm netballers to create a "Scandinavia" ladies team for the international netballing event of 2012, held in Gibraltar. The Scandinavia team finished second in their pool behind Ireland and ahead of Madrid, and one of our membersgained our club's first European C award umpiring qualification. Well done to Katya, Laura, Liz, Mandy and Sara who participated, and thanks to Sara and Mandy for representing Copenhagen in the networking and umpiring workshop events.
"Fastnet" Rules - 13 June 2012
To mix things up a bit we played our games with "Fastnet" rules. Fastball is netball with some variations on the usual rules including powerplays and bonus point shots.

After sharing some lovely food and drinks at cozy Le Garage restaurant, Østerbro, we headed over to Parken to watch the Denmark v Australia Football (soccer) friendly. A fun afternoon despite the chilly weather and Australian loss!

A few of us gathered in the hall to put in some extra practice, which was especially helpful for the members heading off to represent us in Gibraltar at the Netball Festival.

We held a social netball night after our first six-week competition for the year.
2012 AGM - 28 February 2012
Following a review of one of our most productive periods so far, we discussed ideas for 2012 over some fantastic Thai food and drinks (thank you Katya!) at Kalasin restaurant. Most of the board's 2011 members decided to serve another term and were re-elected, but three fresh faces also joined us to help grow and improve the club over the coming year.
Friday Night Drinks - 24 February 2012
A quiet start to the night with drinks and "hygge" at Cafe Retro was followed by a brief tour in and out of Zefside, then cocktails at Cafe Katz.

In our first development event of the year, thirteen current and potential Club umpires gathered around a model netball court to discuss umpiring techniques and netball rules, and eat pizza. Many thanks to Phil and Sue for hosting.

We kicked off our first competition for 2012 at the start of February. With our new format, three teams play against each other over 6 weeks to determine a Winter/Spring 2012 champion.
Copenhagen Netball Club Christmas Party - 26 November 2011
Øbro Spisehus and chef Luke Chen put on a Morrocan-inspired three-course feast for our 2011 Christmas Party. While there were many non-traditional aspects to the night, we did retain the infamous Danish package game (pakkelej) and there was plenty of wine, spirits and cheer to go around. Many thanks to all our helpers and to Luke for cooking up an amazing dinner.
Scandinavian Showdown 2011, Mini-Tournament - 5 November 2011
A Saturday afternoon in early November saw us hosting a Scandinavian mixed mini-tournament featuring five teams - three from Copenhagen, one from Stockholm, and a composite team of players from both clubs. All of our players contributed to some intense, skilled netball, and the tournament could have been won by any of the teams. In the end, it was Copenhagen's Vikings who prevailed over Copenhagen Invaders in a tight final. Players awarded "Best Effort" prizes were Angela, Nic and Laura from Copenhagen, and Ben and Jayne from Stockholm. A highlight of the tournament was the social dinner, drinks and dancing that followed the final. Thanks to Stockholm for making the trip down and we look forward to seeing you next year!
Mini-Season Finale and Social Night - 5 October 2011
Most fittingly, the winner of our second Autumn mini-season was The Ridiculously Good Team (yellow bibs), with commendable performances by Michael og De Lækre Sild (blue bibs) and Smørrebrøds Vikingerne (green bibs). Congratulations to team players awarded a "Best Effort" prize - Katrine, Isobel and Rochelle, and thanks to all who participated in our social drinks.
Copenhagen Expat Fair - 13 September 2011
Expats were able to meet members from Copenhagen Netball Club and get free pancakes at the annual Copenhagen Expat Fair held at the Town Hall on Tuesday 13 September. Thanks to SpouseCare for organising, and our volunteers for manning the stand, and we hope to see some new members on Wednesday nights!
Bring A Beer/Drink Night - 7 September 2011
Three teams fought it out in an energetic round of games for our social night to see Green team just pip Yellow team and the Blue "Thunderbirds" by a goal. Games were followed by drinks, snacks and socialising - giving our new members a chance to get know some fellow netballers and returning members the opportunity to catch up on news.
Summer Events - June-August 2011
We had a great time at Tivoli Fridays Rock on 24 June seeing Saybia and The Rumour Said Fire. Unfortunately bad weather meant we had to postpone, then cancel our BBQ Beach Party, but we held a restaurant dinner at Thai Corner on 23 July instead, and we're hoping to make up for this with more social events!
Display at Barracudas Australian Rules Footy Club Family Day - 4 June 2011
Football might have been the focus for the reverse draw event, but sun-loving netballers also came out to Stefans Boldklub to show the crowd how a polite low-contact sport is played. A big thank you to those who participated.
Impromptu Bring A Beer Night - 1 June 2011
When Jens pointed out that Thursday 2 June was a holiday, there was no excuse but to include a social drink after Wednesday night games. We also welcomed some new faces, including quite a few Danish women. We hope they'll be back!
Brussels International Netball Tournament - 14-16 May 2011
Mannekin Pis (the famous little peeing boy statue), a supertall ex-pro basketballer and one of Fiji's former national players representing Brussels were among the sights and people encountered at our third international netball tournament. After beating teams from Paris, Brussels and Switzerland to win Pool B, our Copenhagen mixed netballers faced a battle of gigantic proportions in the semi-final. Unable to shut down a tall male GS from Switzerland, we lost the semi by only a few goals to finish third. Host club Brussels eventually won the tournament over Switzerland. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic weekend of beer, waffles, chocolate and netball!
Coaching & Bring A Beer Night - 20 April 2011
An optional pre-tournament coaching session preceded a super-social night of netball. Games were followed by a few beers, some snacks and plenty of chatting out at the hall.
Aussie Rules Footy and Social Event - 16 April 2011
The weather may have been uninspiring, but the football was exciting and the beers cheap. Copenhagen Netball Club's President Michael Bryrup made his Aussie Rules debut for the North Copenhagen Barracudas Australian Football Club in their match win over Helsingborg Saints. In a second game, our national representatives - the Danish Vikings - were unable to match a physical North London Lions. Netballers were guests at the Barracudas' club dinner and function.
Pub Night - 19 March 2011
A casual dinner at a local Turkish restaurant followed by some beers and a few shots at the pub turned into more drinks and dancing at a nightclub... Thanks to everyone who made it to our first social event for the year.

Our 2011 AGM yielded a range of new ideas for furthering the club, a new partnership with the Barracudas Aussie Rules Football Club and four new Board members.

Julefrokost (Christmas Party) - 4 December 2010
Frikadeller, leverpostej, akvavit and ris ala mande were some of the highlights of our traditional Danish Julefrokost. A high-spirited "pakkeleg" (package game), relaxed socialising, and some old school dancing took the party into the early hours. Thanks to our helpers and very accommodating hosts.

Comedy Night at the Dubliner - 14 October 2010
A mix of upcoming and famous comedians, a generous serving of fish and chips, several good beers and a whole lot of expats made for a great night out. Thanks to Phil for organising.
Copenhagen Expat Fair - 4 October 2010
Amidst famous pancakes and all kinds of different clubs, Copenhagen Netball Club was at the Town Hall to showcase and explain our sport to Denmark's newest residents.
Autumn Round Robin Competition - Wednesday Nights in Autumn
The new season is underway and our third round saw "Blaabaer" (Blueberries) take revenge on "The Village People" with a convincing 12-goal win (27-15). Blaabaer's return to form after two straight losses puts a decisive end to their YMCA-ing rivals' winning streak and ensures that both teams are well and truly back in the running for the title!
Stockholm International Netball Tournament - 20-22 August 2010
Attracting netballers from Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland and Denmark, Stockholm's first international mixed summer netball tournament was also a first for Scandinavia. Two days of intensive outdoor play culminated in a fast-paced final, where Copenhagen Netball Club defeated Stockholm Netball Club to take the tournament trophy. The weekend's lively social activities and plenty of netball training, coaching and development rounded out a fantastic event. Thanks to our hosts, Stockholm Netball Club, and all those involved in making the tournament a success. And well done to our Copenhagen netballers!
Denmark vs. The World - Kulturhavn, Islands Brygge, Saturday 7 August 2010
Final score: Denmark 6, The World 5. Congratulations to our winning Danes and thank you to all our players, officials and supporters for helping us give Copenhagen a real taste of netball. The weather was perfect for our outdoor grass court, and social games and goal shooting competitions continued well into the evening.
Netball Rulz - Thursday 29 July 2010
Our beautiful private venue at Holmen provided a scenic view of the canal and Christiania, and was the perfect backdrop for a summer (gas!) BBQ and a novel netball board game. Well done to the winning team - "The Ducks", and a big thank you to our hosts.
Mystery Night BBQ Bash with the Works - Friday 16 July 2010
Making the most of Denmark's brilliant summer, netballers and their guests gathered in Fælledparken for a relaxed evening of socialising and BBQing. Activities ranged from kongespil to football (both Aussie Rules and soccer), to just throwing the frisby around. Thanks to all who participated.
Bring A Beer Night - Wednesday 12 May 2010
Netball followed by a few social beers. 'Nuff said.
Microsoft Netball Challenge - Sunday 9 May 2010
Featuring fierce competition between teams from some of Copenhagen's internationally minded businesses, this one-day corporate tournament revealed a surprising amount of raw netball talent. After an introductory netball skills workshop, mixed teams battled it out over six games for the championship. Law firm Kromann Reumert narrowly edged out science professionals from CopenhagenUniversity and IT experts from Microsoft Development Centre Copenhagen to take top spot, but there were some impressive displays of speed, determination and athleticism from each of the teams throughout the day. A big thank you to Microsoft Development Centre, Copenhagen for sponsoring the event. Thanks also to many of the Club members who assisted on the day and made sure our new netballers mastered the rules of the game.
Boutique Pub Crawl - Copenhagen Style - Saturday 17 April 2010
Belgian beer and gourmet finger food, an authentic Danish "værtshus", meat pies and a cracker quiz at the Aussie pub, finished off with Irish jigging on the tables with a pint of Guinness in hand... This year's Pub Crawl was a great social event that captured the multi-cultural essence of living in Copenhagen, and made sure we tasted some of the classic beers from here, there and Down Under. The night was made special by the participation of our easygoing netballers and their friends, and the generous hospitality of Den Tatoverede Enke, Sørens Værtshus, The Southern Cross Australian Bar (including quiz-master Mike) and The Dubliner.
Bring A Beer Night - March 2010
A new variation on our "Bring a Friend" nights, it seems that it is in fact easier to bring a beer to netball than a friend. Good to keep the post-sport social drinks alive. Thank you Damo for an abundance of chips.
Pub Quiz at the Cross - 25 February 2010
A classic pub quiz at the Southern Cross. Unfortunately none of our netballers took home the top prize, but there were some questionable shots and strange antics along the way. An entertaining night!
Traditional Danish Julefrokost
The Club held its first ever Julefrokost on Friday 27 November 2009. Traditional Danish Christmas food and spirits were followed by music, games and entertainment. Thanks to all who joined in for a fun evening, and to Megan O'Connor for organising the event.
Bring A Friend Night - Wednesday 4 November 2009
With new faces from countries like Denmark, the US and Spain, our "Bring a Friend Night" brought together men and women from different cultures and very different sporting backgrounds. We ran a basic skills workshop with three stations, followed by some hotly contested games. Thanks to all those who participated and helped our newcomers get a feel for the game.
October Round Robin Competition
Hamlets Hær successfully defended their title in our second mixed Wednesday night competition at Bellahøj. But it was a close fight for the trophy with strong competition from A Team and Copenhagen Mavericks!

Between 9-11 October 2009, the world's six best netballing nations faced off in a series of Fast Net games - a condensed and action-packed version of netball. The series winners were New Zealand, with Jamaica in second place.

During the second week of September 2009, Østerbro Library hosted Australia Week. A special display was arranged featuring Australian books, art, culture and... netball.
Netball at Roskilde Festival - 28 June to 1 July 2009
Together with the Australian Embassy, Copenhagen Netball Club put on a display event at Denmark's favourite music festival. Running over several very hot days, the event attracted curious concert-goers (many of whom had never played netball before) and a lot of new faces. Our participants really got into the spirit with social games and goal shooting competitions.
Club Night and Rubik's Cube Party - 26 June 2009
Who says netballers aren't multi-talented? Singing stars and guitar heroes made our colourful first Club Night memorable.
